Specializing in oil painting and digital art, 27 year old, Mia Chai uses her art as a spiritual way to express and explore her inner world and rediscover her self after living through other people’s expectations of her. She uses bold colors and fluid, ever changing line work to show the juxtaposition between the light and darkness in her. Her work is often used as a channel to her ancestors and spirit: therefore often contains messages from the divine for the collective. 

Mixing elements of realism with cartoony 2d stylistic elements, Mia uses this as a way to express how she views her inner world. Her work is a way of processing her own emotions that have been deemed not acceptable for others, so in each piece you can feel the deep emotion breathed into it. Each work is a reminder of the importance of emoting and how critical it is, not only as an artist, but also to the human experience. Many emotions are demonized, but they are all apart of us and it’s important to sit with each one instead of demonizing them or hyper-focusing on fixing what we deem "imperfect".
